The Dallas Stars comeback in a game heavily controlled by the refs in a 6-1 win.

The Oilers came out tonight ready to go but unfortunately so did the refs. While the refs called near every hit against Dallas and Edmonton, the Oilers' special teams were not ready for the challenge.

Marty Reasoner got the Oilers on the board first tonight for a 1-0 Oilers lead just over 6 minutes into the game. The power play goal was a good bounce off the end boards and then off Turco's pads to go into the net.

Then the underdog hopes would slowly by slowly fizzle away in Texas.

Sergei Zubov scored the tying goal at the midway point of the first period. Ethan Moreau was out for a questionable goaltender interference penalty.

Scott Young would continue with a power play goal of his own and then a goal 5-on-5 to put that extra dagger in the hearts of the Oilers before the first period was out.

Brad Isbister lead the Oilers to the penalty box throughout the second period as the Oilers' discipline really started to fade away as did their hopes to win the game. Jason Arnott got his team up 4-1 in the second.

The third period was just an embarassment to hockey everywhere. The Oilers lost all control and saw Ryan Smyth, Jason Smith, Cory Cross and Ethan Moreau with more penalty minutes than normal hockey players get in a couple games. There was a lot of emotion while the Stars scored two more goals early in the period from Modano and Dahlen. Jussi Markkanen took over the goaltending from Tommy Salo. Markkanen allowed one goal on 12 shots after Salo allowed 5 with 29 shots.

Outshot 41-13 and out-manned by the Dallas Stars, the Oilers were also outclassed. Thanks in part to some questionable referee calls in the first period, and then another thank you to the young, ambitious team the Oilers are. The discipline just started to fade as the game continued. The Oilers were still luckier than Dallas in the end results. While the Oilers lost by 5 goals, they will not lose any players for the game on Sunday. Derian Hatcher will be enjoying popcorn at Skyreach Sunday night with a one game suspension resulting from tonight's game.

Scott Young - 2 goals, 1 assist.
Mike Modano - 1 goal, 2 assists.
Sergei Zubov - 1 goal, 1 assist

Despite losing the game, the Oilers faceoff percentages massively improved in game 2. The Oilers went 1 for 6 on the power play. Match that to the Stars going 3 for 19. The Oilers plain and simply cannot allow that many power play opportunities if they plan on winning more games against the Stars.

Cory Cross wound up having to pay $1000 in a fine for the intent to injure penalty in the third period. Derian Hatcher misses game 3 with a mandatory one-game suspension. The Dallas Stars to have the right to appeal the suspension.

Next up is on Sunday. The Oilers will back at home at Skyreach. The game starts at 6:00PM.
